A proper stovetop waffle iron.
No electronics to fail, no coating to scratch, no plastic box for the cupboard - just cast iron that makes a better waffle and outlasts the lot.

How it works
Batter in, flip once
Most waffle makers are a cheap electric box that does one job, lives in a cupboard, and gives up after a couple of years. This is the opposite. Two cast iron plates on a hinge. Pour your batter in, close it, cook it on the hob, flip it once. You get a proper crisp edge and a soft centre.
-
Even heat, no recovery time
Cast iron holds heat hard. Once it is up to temperature, your waffles cook consistently one after another - without the dip you get while an electric element recovers between batches.
-
One round waffle, four segments
A 20cm round waffle that breaks cleanly into four. The plates hinge open fully so the waffle comes out easily and the iron is straightforward to wipe clean.
-
Works on every hob
Gas, electric, ceramic and induction. The solid cast iron base sits flat and transfers heat efficiently across all of them.
The case for cast iron
Buy it once
At £35 it costs about the same as a mid-range electric maker. Unlike that one, it will still be working in twenty years. Nothing wears out, nothing scratches off, nothing burns out.
The pre-seasoned surface is a natural, chemical-free non-stick that improves the more you cook on it. Every waffle you make makes the next one better.
Sunday breakfast is the obvious one - buttermilk waffles, bacon, maple syrup. But the same iron does more. Cheese and chive waffles for a fast supper. A richer, yeasted batter when you want something more indulgent. Last night's batter cooked off the next morning while the coffee brews.
Care
Cast iron asks for a little back. Wipe it clean while it is still warm, dry it, give it an occasional thin wipe of oil. No dishwasher, no soaking. That is the whole routine, and it is what keeps the non-stick getting better rather than wearing away.
